Darkling  ||  Third Eye Theatre Ensemble

October 2019

Greg conducted nine performance of Stefan Weisman's Darkling for Third Eye Theatre Ensemble.  The opera, based on Anna Rabinowitz's book-length acrostic poem of the same name, is an artistic collaboration written for singers, actors, and mixed media.  The atmospheric and visceral work centers upon a woman (Anna) who sifts through a box of old photographs and letters found in her late father’s closet.  It recalls fragments of lives that were lost when their owners perished in the Holocaust, and, in the words of the poet herself, asks the viewer to consider stories that are “pleading to be flossed from the teeth of silence.”
